How to improve the output of extruder by setting process parameters?

2024-07-25

The following are some ways to increase extruder output by setting process parameters:

1. Increase screw speed:

Increasing the rotation speed of the screw can push more plastic raw materials per unit time, thereby increasing production. However, it should be noted that too high speed may lead to uneven plasticization of plastics, too fast temperature rise and other problems, so it is necessary to moderately increase within the scope of the equipment.

For example, the original screw speed is 30 rpm, and it can be gradually increased to 40-50 rpm if the equipment bearing capacity and plastic plasticizing quality allow.

2. Optimize heating temperature:

Reasonably set the temperature of each heating section to ensure that the plastic raw materials can be quickly and fully melted, improve the fluidity of the plastic, and thus increase the output. However, too high a temperature may cause plastic decomposition, and too low a temperature will lead to poor plasticization.

For example, for a certain type of plastic, increase the temperature of the front section of the barrel from 180°C to 200°C, and the middle section from 170°C to 190°C, while closely observing the plasticization of the plastic.

3. Adjust the compression ratio of screw:

Appropriately increasing the compression ratio of the screw can enhance the compaction and plasticizing effect of plastics and improve the extrusion efficiency. However, excessive compression ratio may increase energy consumption and equipment burden.

Assuming that the original compression ratio is 3:1, it can be adjusted to 3.5:1 according to the characteristics of plastics and production needs.

4. Optimize the head pressure:

By adjusting the design of the die and the discharge speed of the extruder, the proper pressure of the head is maintained, which is conducive to the uniform extrusion of plastics and the increase of output.

For example, a more rational design of the nose flow path reduces the resistance, thus reducing the head pressure at the same extrusion speed.

5. Control cooling speed:

Ensure that the product can be cooled quickly after extrusion, shorten the production cycle, thereby increasing the output per unit time.

For example, increase the length of the cooling tank or increase the flow rate of the cooling medium to speed up the cooling speed.

6. Improve the feeding method:

The uniform and continuous feeding method is adopted to avoid extrusion fluctuation caused by uneven feeding, stabilize the extrusion process, and help to increase the yield.

For example, an automatic feeding device is used to precisely control the amount and speed of feeding.

It should be noted that when adjusting the process parameters, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the characteristics of the plastic, product quality requirements and the performance and limitations of the equipment to find the best combination of parameters to ensure product quality while increasing production.
